Daniel Woeller and his superpower

I began my journey in architecture, but I quickly realized it didn’t bring me the fulfillment I sought. The slow processes and rigid structures of architectural projects contrasted sharply with my restless curiosity and desire for immediacy. Through my work as a stylist for fashion shoots and my deep fascination with European auteur cinema, I discovered my true calling: photography and film directing. This became both my vocation and my adventure.

I am obsessed with images. Every project I take on – whether a fashion campaign, music video, or cinematic editorial – is treated as a complete story. I work as a creative director, photographer, producer, and sometimes writer, developing storyboards, selecting locations, and orchestrating every element of the shoot. My fashion photography is intentionally staged, yet alive with emotion and cinematic energy. I demand more from models than typical poses: they act, inhabit, and convey emotion, creating images that feel like scenes from a film.

My earliest inspirations were films by Antonioni, Bergman, Buñuel, Fellini, Godard, Rohmer, Scorsese, Truffaut and many more. Watching these works repeatedly, I learned to appreciate composition, tension, and narrative rhythm, which now define my photographic approach. Early mentors and friends guided me into the medium: Daniel Josefsohn helped me understand the craft of photography, and Sven Väth encouraged me to direct my first music video, “Dein Schweiß,” which later received an MTV nomination. These experiences reinforced my confidence and taught me the power of visual storytelling.

I specialize in fashion photography on location rather than in studios, because real environments – from rusted shipwrecks to deserts, forests, and urban streets – enhance the story. I often work with large teams, coordinating lighting, camera, styling, and set design to ensure every detail supports the narrative. My work blends staged fashion, cinematic storytelling, and creative direction, creating images that are visually striking and emotionally resonant.

For me, photography is more than a profession; it is an immersive, joyful experience. I lose track of time, hunger, and comfort when capturing the perfect frame. My ultimate goal is to reveal what others may not see: reflections, gestures, fleeting emotions, and contrasts that bring fashion to life. Through my lens, I strive to create compelling stories that resonate, merging imagination, style, and human emotion into each photograph.
